Summary of Dispute

I needed someone to come to my house and give me an estimate to replace the two springs on my garage door. Somebody named "Joshua" showed up driving his personal vehicle. He looked at the job and gave me a price of $650.00, which seemed high to me. I asked if he would accept $600.00 and he agreed if I paid cash (he insisted). I said I may only have $200.00 and he said the rest would have to be on a debit card. He agreed to that. I had been doing a lot of research on the replacement of the garage door springs so I have a decent amount of knowledge of how this job should be accomplished. He did not have the correct springs and said the ones he installed would work just fine. I paid him $300.00 cash and $300.00 on debit card. I asked him for a receipt for the work accomplished. He got my email address and said he would send me a receipt. I never got a receipt. I'm quite sure he pocketed the cash. There is no proof that sales tax was collected for the $600.00 fee charged. I checked my bank account soon after the transaction and saw a $300.00 debit card charge. I called the business at 833-563-1997 number on Wed, March 4 and said the garage door spring is making a bad noise when the door is opened. They stated that supervision will call me right away to resolve. Nobody called me. I called again today, March 5 and told all that is wrong and nobody called me back for resolution. I got an email address of their site and explained the situation to them and the email came back as "undeliverable". The installer had given me a generic looking business card with no name on it and a phone # 425-565-0024. That number was no good (would not connect). To summarize, I needed garage door springs replaced, the person who was to accomplish the work had a few springs in his truck and installed them incorrectly jut so the door would open and close. There an a lot of sizes of garage door springs. Only a select few would work properly for my specific door. He installed whatever he had laying in the back of his truck incorrectly installed them (wound way too tight). The one spring is so tight and bound up that is about to break. He was also using pressure tactics which seemed to work on me as a 63 year old man. Today I did a online search of their site using "is garagedoorserviceguys legit". I found that they seem to target elderly and use pressure tactics while charging way too much for services. What I am forced to do now is buy the correct door springs and do the installation myself. That will cost about $300.00.

Summary of Transaction Venue's Actions

I finally received a call from the person who did the work on Feb 2. He asked that I "oil" the springs he installed to make the noise go away. That did not help. I asked again for a receipt for the work done and he said he would email one, he never did. I thoroughly inspected his work with knowledge I gained from an actual door specialist. He installed springs that are insufficient to last very long even though he stated the job comes with a ten year warranty. He did not provide me with any proof that he had even been to my house to do the work, let alone any ability to use the promised warranty. He gave me a very generic looking business card that had phone number 425-565-0024. That number does not work. The 833-563-1997 number sounds like a call center when they answer and speak. Also, I'm positive that most, if not all of the $300.00 part of the payment was "pocketed" by the repair man, based on how shady he behaved. That is not how I pay someone for professional services
